This is a continuation of the previous post... read that first! Then read this:
The story reminds me a lot of the chof hey adar b.a.m. campaign we worked on with Rabbi Shimmy. I don't know how much it came through to the rest of school, but when we farbrenged with him, he managed to bring it out to us loud and clear: What the Rebbe wants of us is to beg for Moshiach with our whole hearts. We have to want it sooo much and to such an extent that another minute in golus is an absolutely unbearable thought.
Now, as long as we want the geulah for personal reasons, or even for a beautiful global ideal, another minute or second might not be such a tragedy... like, it's ok as long as he comes soon! That's like the woman in the story here - because her concept of Moshiach is a very selfish one (and also by the way, a very narrow-minded one), it is possible that she will get comfortable and decide that it's not so necessary.
The point is to broaden our outlook, and think a little bit bigger. The world was created by Hashem and for Hashem. He wanted it to be a place where he could live comfortably and reveal Himself to all. Unfortunately, due to much sinfulness, He was forced to depart from the world, and in a sense His presence is tied up in chains to klipah. And every minute of golus is another minute of unbearable pain. And not only does He feel this pain, but so do the multitudes of malachim and spiritual beings the serve Him, and along with them all the neshamos of all the Yidden that lived and live still. [We saw a video of the Rebbe saying this... more details another time, or i'll try to find a link to that clip.]
When we think of Geulah in these terms, instead of the just our own personal needs, desires, or even ideals, we can begin to understand what one minute less of golus really is worth, and we can be motivated to put in the effort to prevent it. We just have to shake ourselves out of our narrow-mindedness, stop thinking only within our present comfortable, familiar lives, and do everything within our power to put an end to this unbearable golus and bring Moshiach NOW!!!
AMEN!
So that's my piece... but i didn't write it to begin with cuz i wanted to hear u guys thoughts on that story... so please do share!!
